I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all participants and organisers of the International Conference ‘Railway Engineering: A Springboard to a Closer Partnership between 1520 & 1435’.

Cooperation between Russian and European companies in the field of railway engineering is very important to the Russian transport sector. It aims to create new highly innovative rolling stock units, serving the growing need for quality transportation on the East–West and North–South lines.

The Conference is being held concurrently with InnoTrans, the biggest railway engineering trade fair in the world. This gives us the opportunity to discuss practical issues regarding cooperation between Russian and European companies and to familiarise ourselves with advanced prototype units produced jointly by Russian and European railway engineering manufacturers.

I am sure this event will allow us to examine key aspects of development in the railway engineering industry in light of harmonising the legal framework and upgrading technological and operational compatibility between 1520 and 1435.

I wish the distinguished members of the conference fruitful work, innovative ideas and productive discussions.
