The speakers at the business forum opening ceremony will include President of the Latvian Republic Andris Berzins, President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, President of Latvian Railways Ugis Magonis and other officials.

One of the highlights of the business forum will be the plenary session entitled “The Baltic Region: Partnership of Business Spaces 1520 and 1435”, involving top railway officials from Russia, the CIS and Baltic countries and representatives of business circles and financial structures. The session will discuss development of East-West and North-South transport corridors, unification of railway law in the 1520 and 1435 spaces and development of transport cooperation with the EU.

The session “Technological and Operational Compatibility as a Railway Business Growth Factor” will cover such topical issues as synchronising traffic control and security systems, unification of certification and technical regulation rules, and increasing the capacity and modernisation of the 1520 and 1435 railway system infrastructures.

The forum's business programme on the second day will be equally full. The international business dialogue “Container Freight: the Future of Multimodal Carriage through the Baltic Region” will be attended by railway officials and heads of freight carrier companies. The experts will discuss the prospects for and trends in the development of the container carriage market.

The themes of the business dialogue will be picked up by a series of round tables: “Customs and Border Control,” “Railway – Seaport: Interaction and Collective Liability,” “Passenger Corridors: Current Level and Development Potential” and “Baltic Region Transport Logistics: Modern Services to Meet the Growing Volume of Freight Carriage.” Taking part in these events will be heads of railway administrations of 1520 and 1435 spaces; heads of major carrier companies, operators and freight owners; representatives of the banking and investment sectors, business associations and research organisations.

Strategic Partnership 1520 regional business forums have been held annually since 2006. In the Baltic region, the forum was hosted by Riga in 2008 and Tallinn in 2010.
