The Franco-Russian Dialogue Association was founded in 2004 in Paris at the suggestion of President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Jacques Chirac of France, who had taken the association under their personal patronage.

The joint presidents of the association are, on the French side, Thierry Desmarest, honorary chairman of Total S.A., and on the Russian side, Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways.

Franco-Russian Dialogue is a unique arena for frank discussion between the civil society of Russia and France. Strengthening and developing this dialogue is indeed the key idea behind creating the association. A particularly important role in this process is today played by the younger generation of Russian and French people, with their new, bold and progressive initiatives.

Franco-Russian Dialogue is expected to help deepen mutual understanding and develop all-round friendly and strategic relations of partnership between Russia and France, based on respect, trust, solidarity and cooperation.

Taking up the baton of the last Year of Russia in France and of France in Russia in 2010, Franco-Russian Dialogue is today opening up additional opportunities for bringing the two sides closer together in cooperation, following the trends of development in the modern world.
